Theophilus Afelokhai has revealed his ambition to replicate the goalkeeping heroics of Vincent Enyimba at Enyimba in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Rave of the moment Afelokhai has been in fine form this season for the People's Elephants, confining Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup member Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Ghana’s Afcon 2013 shot-stopper Fatau Dauda to the bench.

His stunning saves notably saw Enyimba earned 1-0 win at AC Djoliba in Bamako and a home 1-0 win against CARA Brazzaville in Aba before ensuring a 0-0 draw with Rayon Sports in Kigali.

And the 28-year-old explained how much the former Nigeria captain’s legacy in Aba is inspiring him to lead the Aba giants to continental success between the sticks.

“My dream is to win at least a continental cup with Enyimba; I’ll do my best to be part of history and win the Confederation Cup,” Afelokhai told Cafonline.com.

“I want to be remembered here at Enyimba as one of the club’s great goalkeepers, and I also want to emulate my hero Vincent Enyeama who made history with the club before moving abroad.

“I love Enyeama because he makes goalkeeping looks so easy and I  want to follow his footsteps by winning continental honours here at Enyimba.”

In the build-up to Sunday’s tie, the former Kano Pillars man is wary of the Rwandan giants but remains upbeat about their chances of progressing to the semi-final.

“We had a good match in Kigali against Rayon Sport and the result was okay; but we must overcome Rayon Sports in Aba so that we can qualify for the semi-finals,” he continued.

“We know the second leg encounter is not going to be easy against Rayon Sport but we are going to do our best to ensure we qualify for the second leg.

“Of course, I will do my best with all my heart and we know all that is at stake; we believe God that has brought us to this point will help us qualify for the semi-finals.”
