Hazard sees Chelsea stay backed by brother Thorgan amid intense Real Madrid rumours

The Belgian forward continues to be linked with a big-money move to Spain, but those closest to him do not expect a switch to be made any time soon

Eden Hazard “made the right decision to stay at Chelsea”, says his brother Thorgan, but a future move to Real Madrid is not being ruled out.

A potential switch to Spain for a two-time Premier League title winner dominated gossip columns throughout the summer transfer window, with those at the Santiago Bernabeu in the market for another ‘Galactico’.

Hazard did little to curb the speculation with comments hinting at a fresh start away from Stamford Bridge.

He has continued to fan those flames, with the 27-year-old suggesting that he may require a switch to La Liga in order to push himself into contention for Ballon d’Or honours.

Thorgan Hazard is, however, of the opinion that an extended spell at Stamford Bridge is the right call for now, with the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder telling HLN of the rumours surrounding his sibling: “Eden made the right decision to stay at Chelsea.

“Chelsea weren’t keen on selling him and he had a strong start of the season.

“Real Madrid are in a complex period. They sacked their manager, key players left. They have to rebuild.”

The Blancos saw Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane head through the Bernabeu exits over the summer and have endured a testing 2018-19 campaign without two talismanic figures on their books.

Julen Lopetegui has already been relieved of his managerial duties and uncertainty continues to surround the future of several high-profile players.

Hazard has been able to steer clear of the mess in Madrid, but Thorgan has suggested that a potential move will be considered at some stage – with his brother’s current contract at Chelsea due to expire in 2020.

He added: “I think Eden will see what happens at the end of the season.

“I know him. He’s not thinking about a move right now.

“He will give everything for Chelsea. He doesn’t want a clash with his club either. If he ever leaves, he will play it correctly.”

Chelsea are still hoping to tie Hazard to a fresh terms, but the collective focus in west London is currently locked on a promising 2018-19 campaign which has seen Maurizo Sarri’s side enjoy an unbeaten start to their Premier League, Europa League and Carabao Cup quests.
