Habibou Diallo, Ibrahima Niane fire Metz past AC Ajaccio

Habibou Mouhamadou Diallo and Ibrahima Niane’s outstanding efforts gifted Metz a 3-1 victory over AC Ajaccio in their French Ligue 2 encounter at Stade Saint-Symphorien.

Having kicked off the second division campaign on the right foot with three wins on the bounce, the Maroons continued their winning streak with yet another one on their turf.

And efforts from Diallo, who after scoring a brace had to assist his fellow countryman Niane who was brought on in the second-half to score his third goal of the season.

Stopilla Sunzu, Ghana’s John Boye, Mali’s Mamadou Fofana, Cote d’Ivoire’s Victorien Angban, Algeria’s Farid Boulaya, and Senegal’s Opa Nguette were all part of the matchday squad for the home side.

With just two minutes remaining before the half-time break, the hosts took the lead with a strike from the Senegalese forward after being picked out by Angban.

And in the 70th minute, the 23-year-old’s conversion from the penalty spot doubled Antonetti’s men lead after a Boulaya’s free-kick was handled by Aliou Dembele in the danger zone.

Ghislain Gimbert’s strike in the 76th minute gave Olivier Pantaloni’s side hope before super-sub Niane came on to secure the victory for the home team in the 83rd minute, following a cross from Diallo that deceived goalkeeper Benjamin Leroy.

Metz with their fourth win top the table in the French Ligue 2 log with 12 points and will hope to continue their unbeaten run when they travel to trade tackles with Troyes at Stade de l'Aube on August 24.
