Gustavo Paez apologises to Kaizer Chiefs for snubbing Giovanni Solinas

The Amakhosi star has apologised following an incident that took place during the Macufe Cup in Bloemfontein on Sunday

Kaizer Chiefs attacker Gustavo Paez has issued an apology following an incident which took place during the Macufe Cup last weekend.

Amakhosi successfully lifted the annual trophy for the third consecutive year, but the victory was marred by what appeared to be a disrespectful gesture by Paez to coach Giovanni Solinas.

The Venezuelan was substituted in the second half, but television footage showed that he was not too thrilled aboout it as he appeared to snub a handshake offered by the Amakhosi mentor.

Nonetheless, the 28-year-old who has made seven Premier Soccer League (PSL) appearances this season - of which only three has been starts, has since apologised for the incident, expressing his deepest regret.

“There was no bad intent on my part as I have a great relationship with the coach,” Paez said in a statement published on the Chiefs website.

“It was a case of misunderstanding,” he added.

“I admit that it looked bad and for that reason I apologise sincerely to the Chairman, the club, my teammates, sponsors, supporters and all the stakeholders for this unfortunate incident,” explained Paez.

Meanwhile, the club confirmed that they have taken steps in order to deal with the matter internally as they turn their complete attention to this weekend’s Telkom Knockout clash against Black Leopards.

“The club has implemented necessary internal steps to ensure that the matter is put to bed and the team can focus on Sunday’s Telkom Knockout Last 16 game against Black Leopards,” the club expressed.

Chiefs will certainly need to avoid any potential distractions going into the game.

The Glamour Boys are currently on a run of two games without a win and could potentially be without star striker Lebogang Manyama after he was involved in a car accident earlier this week.
