Gor Mahia are expected to receive slightly over Sh60 million this year from the gaming company

Gor Mahia’s management says that a proposal by the team sponsors-SportPesa to pay players directly is not an indictment of the office’ failure to do their job.

SportPesa are said to be considering taking up the role of ensuring that players dues are settled well in advance following recent reports of strikes witnessed, by both K’Ogalo and AFC Leopards players over delayed salaries.

But club chairman Ambrose Rachier remained defiant that the office is executing their mandate accordingly, adding that they are yet to receive any communication from the team’s sponsor.

SportPesa CEO Ronal Karauri was quoted by a local daily saying that the gaming firm might start channeling players’ salaries directly to their bank accounts starting January.

“I read and saw a big picture of Karauri on the Newspaper but I cannot even trust the reports. Maybe they never even talked to him in the first place so I cannot respond to mere allegations.

“I am yet to receive any official communication from our sponsors, but I can’t say that it’s an indictment on my office. That's a mere hypothesis.

"I can tell you that all teams in Kenya are facing serious financial challenges. I can't even promise that there will be no more strikes occasioned by delays. That is the reality."

Gor Mahia are expected to receive slightly over Sh60 million this year from the gaming company that will go towards players’ salaries.
