Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr has insisted that defender Godfrey Walusmbi signed for Kaizer Chiefs for 'selfish gains'.
On Thursday, the Ugandan left back ended his transfer battle with the Kenyan champions after he was unveiled by Kaizer Chiefs, penning a three-year deal which will end on June 30, 2021.
Gor Mahia had insisted that they will not allow, the 29-year-old defender to sign for the Amakhosi and even threatened to report him to Fifa for breaching the transfer rules alongside his agent.
Asked about the transfer when it was made official, the Briton coach exclusively told Goal, “It was a selfish, greedy and unprofessional move that is deceitful to football.
“It is a disrespectful way he left, it is a joke that only in Africa, players can do as they want and where does that leave the integrity of football?”
Kerr added, “Walusimbi was contracted to Gor Mahia and I denied him chance to go to Chiefs in this manner because it was not right. Even his comments during the Chiefs press conference are disrespectful to my club after what they did to him, playing wise and financially.”
On signing for Chiefs, Walusimbi told the club’s official website, “I’ve always known that Kaizer Chiefs is a great football club. Chiefs play for honours and that’s a positive mindset that every player dreams of.
“Just like every footballer, I always want to move one step further in my career and I think my move to Chiefs is one such step. I have already adapted at Chiefs. It is easier to adapt in a professional environment. I look forward to working hard and contribute to the team.”
Kerr also revealed that the exit of Walusimbi was partly to blame for the team’s exit from Caf Confederation Cup. “We let him get away with this and it hurt my players and hurt our chances in Caf competition. His absence greatly affected George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo because they would complement each other, but after his exit, George has never been the same player."
Walusimbi will don jersey number 29 at Amakhosi and he is expected to fight with fellow full-backs Philani Zulu and Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya for starting role.
