The 23-year-old is weighing up a transfer to Die Alte Dame in his quest for a regular game time

Dutch-born defender Derrick Luckassen could be joining German Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin this summer.

The centre-back is considering a move to Die Alte Dame, having struggled for regular game time at Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.

Following a summer transfer to The Red and Whites last year, the 23-year-old made 19 Eredivisie outings, involving just nine starts, in season 2017-18.

Initially willing to fight for his place this season, Luckassen, Goal can reveal, has begun looking for a possible exit after talks with the club following their pre-season friendly against Spanish outfit Valencia on July 28.

The Dutch side, though, are not keen on letting him go, but the defender’s interest in a move away has forced The Red and Whites to begin considering a possible loan option.

Hertha Berlin looks like his next destination, with Die Alte Dame looking to bolster their defence as the Bundesliga kicks off on Friday.

Negotiations have reached an advanced stage, according to reports, and a deal could be announced in the coming days.

Born to Ghanaian parents in the Netherlands, Luckassen is eligible to represent Ghana at senior level, having represented his birth country at various youth levels.
