Frimpong Manso leaps to the defence of Kotoko coach Paa Kwesi Fabin following a poor start to the Ghana Premier League season

Former Asante Kotoko caretaker coach Frimpong Manso has jumped to the defence of under-fire Paa Kwesi Fabin following the club's poor start to the 2017-18 Ghana Premier League season.

The Kumasi giants have picked only one victory in their last four games and are three points behind leaders Ashanti Gold.

In the wake of Wednesday’s 3-1 shock defeat to debutants Karela, Fabin declared that he is not a magician to turn things around so easily.

That comment did not go down well with a section of the supporters, however, Manso, who briefly handled the team last season, believes the problem might not be related to the technical staff.

“The persistent Kotoko problems have nothing to do with coaching," Manso told Adehye FM.

"Let’s consider the timing of the appointment of the coach as players had already been assembled.

“The coach needs time to study the players and the club needs at least two years to work things out,” he said.

“Many coaches have walked in and out of Kotoko but the problem still persists. The coach can only produce good results after the first round where he will have enough knowledge of the players.

"Kotoko needs to find good and quality players because for now it’s clear the players lack confidence” he added.

Fabin is the fifth coach appointed by Kotoko in two seasons in the quest for their first league title since 2014.
