In KwaZulu Natal, Maritzburg United put up a brave performance to keep their unbeaten momentum intact, playing to an entertaining 1-1 draw with Chippa United at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

It was an electrifying start from the home side who controlled the game inside the opening 30 minutes, spending most of their time in the opposition half.

The Chilli Boys arguably had the best chance of the match to take the lead when against the run of play the visitors were given a penalty after Brian Onyango was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the 18-yard box. This was after new signing Fares Hachi made a beautiful run down the left flank.

Captain James Okwuosa stepped up but saw his effort saved by Richard Ofori to keep the scoreline at 0-0.

The second half commenced with an evenly balanced play between the two sides, but the home team turned up their tempo, eventually leading to Fadlu Davids' team breaking the deadlock.

Evans Rusike capitalised on a through ball from Lebohang Maboe to fire home and give his side the lead in the 64th minute.

Mxolisi Macuphu restored parity for the visitors 20 minutes from time after the Team of Choice carelessly gave away a set-piece on the egde of their own box.

Macuphu was unlucky not to grab his second of the match five minutes from time when his looping ball from a Linda Mntambo pass hit the crossbar.

Despite immense pressure from the home side in the latter stages of the match, Chippa stood firm and walked away with a crucial point.

Down in the Mother City, Ajax Cape Town could only settle for a 0-0 draw with Free State Stars at the Cape Town Stadium.

Both teams look to assert their authority earlier on in the match, but it was the Urban Warriors who were the better side in the first half.

The home side did create half chances through Yannick Zakri, but the Ivory Coast international failed to find the breakthrough as both teams shared the spoils.

It was a dull affair with chances few and far between. Neither side would find the decisive goal as both teams played out to a goalless draw.
