Former Orlando Pirates assistant coach Carnell mum on ‘new exciting opportunity’

Former Orlando Pirates assistant coach Bradley Carnell has refused to divulge details of his next project after requesting to be released from his duties at the Buccaneers.

Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza revealed at a press conference held at Rand Stadium on Monday that Carnell has asked to leave after receiving a coaching offer from an unnamed club abroad.

The former Bafana Bafana defender who played most of his football in Germany says that he hopes to reveal his next destination in the next few days as he is yet to put pen to paper with his next employer.

“I’m afraid that I cannot reveal anything as yet on my next project, but I am hoping that in the next 48/72 hours all will be signed and sealed and then I can be open to speak about it,” he told Goal.

“I have been asked to be quiet from my side, but I am most certain it is an exciting opportunity. It is good for me and It something I’m looking forward to explore and experience," he said.

“It is an opportunity to go work overseas, to gain knowledge, to gain experience and to explore which I believe is another piece in the puzzle of my coaching career," Carnell added.

“There are not many coaches from South Africa, if there is any, who are coaching in Europe and this is a rare opportunity to go and upskill myself and improve as a young coach.”

Meanwhile the 40-year-old also thanked Khoza, Muhsin Ertugral and Augusto Palacios for his experience with the Sea Robbers.

“I think in my four-and-a-half years’ experience coaching, I have soaked up everything I could and I aim grateful to have worked with coaches of such high caliber," he said.

“I’m very grateful to have worked under them and I am grateful to the chairman for allowing me to work under the brand," Carnell continued.

“I am looking forward to go out there, unnoticed, and grow with every opportunity that I can," he continued.

Carnell’s position in the technical bench will be taken over by Harold ‘Jazzy Queen’ Legodi who, alongside Benson Mhlongo, will co-assist newly appointed coach Kjell Jonevret
