The People Elephants new forward believes his side is still in the frame to reach the quarterfinals despite their slip up in Abidjan

Enyimba’s Sunday Adetunji insists his side can still progress to the knockout stage of this year’s Caf Confederation Cup despite bowing 2-0 against Williamsville AC in Abidjan.

The People Elephants were stunned by their hosts after Jean-Willy Kouassi and Guy Yameogo’s strikes at the Stade Robert Champroux saw them surrender the top spot in Group C.

After their defeat, Usman Abdullah’s men dropped to third, with six points after four matches, the ex-Abia Warriors man, who recently joined them is confident they can still pull through.

"I wish to salute my teammates because they did their best in Abidjan against Williamsville," Adetunji told Goal.

"I was not the result anyone had wished for but we must remain calm and focused because we have good depth in the team and I think we will progress to the next round.

"No hope is lost yet. Going beyond the group stage is still a realistic target because we still have two matches to go and our next game against Djoliba and I think we can beat them in Bamako.

“I think we are on the right track. We will maintain our focus as the only representative of the country and put up the best attitude and fight harder as a former Caf Champions League winner.”

Enyimba will play the Malian in Bamako in their next Caf Confederation Cup encounter on August 19 before welcoming CARA Brazzaville ten days later in Port Harcourt.
