The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has postponed the much-anticipated Harare derby between traditional giants Dynamos and Caps United to accommodate Sunday's inauguration of newly-elected Zimbabwe president Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The Derby showdown had been slated for Sunday at Rufaro Stadium.
Dynamos will instead face Highlanders at the National Sports Stadium for a celebratory match to mark the inauguration.
The development also forces the postponement of the league match between Shabanie Mine and Highlanders that was scheduled at Maglas Stadium for Sunday.
The use of the National Sports Stadium on Sunday will also force the shelving of the Black Rhinos-Harare City league tie that had been penciled for the same venue.
"The Premier Soccer League would like to advise the PSL Clubs and its stakeholders that the Castle Lager PSL Matchday 24 fixtures listed hereunder have been postponed to pave way for the inauguration of the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe on Sunday 26 August 2018,” said the PSL in a statement.
“Black Rhinos FC v Harare City FC, Dynamos FC v Caps United FC, Shabanie Mine FC v Highlanders FC. The new dates for the said fixtures will be announced in due course. Please note that the rest of the other Matchday 24 fixtures will proceed as scheduled.”
The Zimbabwe presidential elections have also forced the postponement of the Battle of Zimbabwe between old foes Highlanders and Dynamos on three occasions since late last month.
