The former Newcastle United talisman could not save the Flower of Shanghai from defeat despite his effort at the Jinan Olympic Sports Center Stadium

Demba Ba’s lone goal was not enough to prevent Shanghai Shenhua from bowing to a 3-1 loss to Shandong Luneng on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old gave the visitors a fine start with his opening goal in the 37th minute but Li Peng's own goal drew both sides levelled just before half-time.

Second half efforts from Diego Tardelli and Jin Jingdao sealed maximum points for the league leaders as Wu Jingui's side continue the chase for their first victory since July 18.

Ba who returned to Shanghai after a brief stint in the Turkish Super Lig with Goztepe in June has garnered two goals already in four matches and will be looking to increase his goal tally when they visit Changchun Yatai for next league outing on Saturday.

Shanghai Shenhua remain unmoved in the seventh spot in the Chinese top-flight with 22 points from 15 games.
