De Bruyne knocks Payet off top spot in UEFA Player Barometer at EURO 2016

Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne stands alone as Europe’s best player at present after knocking France’s Dimitri Payet off top spot in the UEFA player Barometer at EURO 2016.

Payet had led the player ratings at EURO 2016 for all but one day since the start of the tournament but this week falls to second after De Bruyne inspired the Belgians to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Hungary in the last 16.

That match also saw Eden Hazard turn in his best performance of the competition thus far that has seen him climb to third place above the likes of Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Crisitano Ronaldo.

Payet’s French colleague Antoine Griezmann is another of the fast risers after his two goals to seal a comeback victory over Republic of Ireland catapulted the Atletico Madrid striker to seventh place.

And Germany’s Julian Draxler is also on the rise, entering the top 30 for the first time this month after grabbing his first EURO 2016 goal during a fine showing for the reigning world champions in their 3-0 demolition of Slovakia.

The Player Barometer values different data points in direct correlation to each player's position and weights performances in direct relation to the strength of the opposition.
