COTIF Cup: India U20s suffer second defeat of the tournament against Mauritania

Floyd Pinto's boys suffered their second defeat in the COTIF Cup as they go down 0-3 against Mauritania....

The India U-20 side went down 3-0 in their second match of the COTIF International football tournament against Mauritania U-20 side in Spain on Tuesday.

Floyd Pinto’s side conceded the first goal in the 25th minute of the match. Mauritania scored the other two goals in the 71st and 78th minute.

Coach Pinto made four changes in the Indian team which went down 0-2 against Murcia on July 30th. Jeakson Singh, Sanjeev Stalin and the two suspended central defenders Jitendra Singh and Anwar Ali made way for Narendra, Deepak Tangri, Aniket Jadhav and Ninthoinganba Meetei. India started the match in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Jadhav playing as the centre-forward.

Amarjit Singh came close to score around the 20th-minute mark but he was denied. Mauritania soon scored the opening goal of the game in 25th minute. The Indian boys fought valiantly and had managed to keep the scoreline 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Aniket came close to equalise around the 60th-minute mark when he tried to find the back of the net with a shot from inside the box but the opponent custodian pulled off a save to deny him.

The African side increased their lead in the 71st minute and hammered the final nail in India’s coffin in the 78th minute.

India next play Venezuela U-20 side August 3rd and play their final match against giants Argentina on August 5th.
