With the coach set to name his first squad of a new cycle, a number of home-based players will be looking to impress this week

Having signed a contract extension that will see him lead Brazil into World Cup 2022, coach Tite this week begins finalising his first squad of the new cycle as he and his staff begin observing potential new call-ups.

The Selecao kick off a new era on September 7 as the Brasil Global Tour resumes with a clash against USA in New Jersey.

And it is quite possible that a number of new faces could be on show as Tite begins to look toward the future.

On Wednesday, Tite himself went to see his former side Gremio take on Flamengo in the quarter-final of the Copa do Brasil, where two forwards on show would have caught the eye.

Reigning South American Player of the Year Luan opened the scoring for Gremio and, after missing out on the World Cup, will hope to force his way back into the international setup ahead of next year’s Copa America.

Flamengo’s Lincoln, a star of Brazil’s Generation 2000, also made an impression as his smart, near-post finish earned the visitors a draw deep into stoppage time.

On Thursday, Tite’s son and assistant Matheus Bachi will be joined by performance analyst Fernando Lazaro at Fluminense versus Defensor in the Copa Sudamericana, where striker Pedro will be hoping to impress.

Meanwhile, technical assistant Cleber Xavier will be at the Morumbi to watch Sao Paulo take on Argentinian outfit Colon in the same competition, with young defender Eder Militao desperate to stand out ahead of a four-year process where Tite will be searching for new defenders.

Completing the agenda of the next week, Bachi and Xavier will attend Botafogo versus Santos on Saturday, while Lazaro will watch Sao Paulo take on Vasco. The following week will see Lazaro and Xavier head to Argentina to see Gremio take on Estudiantes in the Copa Libertadores.

Coach Tite is expected to announce his new 23-man squad for September’s Brasil Global Tour double-header next week.
