Cameroon midfielder Boumal joins Liaoning Whowin

The Douala-born midfielder becomes the first foreign player to be signed by a Chinese club since the introduction of the new transfer regulations

Chinese Super League outfit Liaoning Whowin have announced the signing of Cameroon international Olivier Boumal from the Greek giants Panathinaikos.

The 27-year-old midfielder has just returned from a disappointing campaign with Cameroon at the 2017 Confederation Cup in Russia.

Whowin are looking to bolster their squad for the current season as they are currently laying 13th on the Chinese top tier table with 13 points from 15 outings, only 3 points above the relegation zone.

The Indomitable Lions winger penned deal a valid until the end of 2018, details of his release sum were not given.

Boumal’s transfer is particularly interesting because he the first foreigner signed by a CSI side since the introduction of the new transfer regulations. 

In order to limit the explosive detachment sums Chinese sides pay to bring foreign players to the Asian country, the Chinese association has decided to levied a forfeited tax of the same amount of the sum paid at every transfer fee of over 6 million euros.
