Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin Sredojevic believes that Caio Marcelo Da Silva will be an important player in his team.

Much is expected from the Brazilian defender, who joined the Soweto giants earlier this month after impressing while on trial at the club.

The 20-year-old player helped the Buccaneers keep a clean sheet in his official debut as they drew 0-0 with Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium last week.

Sredojevic has stated that Marcelo is improving fast and he will be an asset to the four-time Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions.

"In any team in the world, there's this dream of having the perfect balance. The perfect balance is to have a centre-back with the left-footer on that side," Sredojevic told the reporters.

"He's got a very good personality. I need to give credit to our players for accommodating him in the best possible way," he continued.

Da Silva joined Pirates from Brazilian fourth division side Nova Iguacu Football Club.

The left-footed player made his second appearance as the Buccaneers drew 1-1 with AmaZulu FC at the King Zwelithini Stadium over the weekend.

"With everything that he has, he has huge space to improve and to develop. Day by day, he's like a sponge you know - the sponge is absorbing fast and improving," he added.

Micho, who has coached in Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan among other countries, believes that Marcelo's very far from his best.

"He's still very far from his best. But having said that, we have trust and confidence, and believe that he'll reach his full potential and he'll be an asset to our team," he concluded.

Marcelo will be hoping to emulate his countryman and Mamelodi Sundowns centre back Ricardo Nascimento, who has established himself as one of the best defenders in the PSL.
