Caf Champions League football excites Sundowns defender Mosa Lebusa

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to begin their Caf Champions League campaign on Wednesday afternoon against Leones Vegetarianos, and one of their newest recruits is relishing the opportunity to compete at the very highest level.

Sundowns defender Mosa Lebusa is slowly finding his feet at the Tshwane giants after joining from Ajax Cape Town at the beginning of the season.

While Lebusa is a highly accomplished defender, who can play either in central defence or as a full-back, he is yet to experience football on the continent.

Nonetheless, the 26-year-old is looking forward to the challenge should Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane give him a chance.

“It’s very exciting; I am looking forward to it. It’s not easy to play in the Champions League; you have to be strong physically and mentally so I’m looking forward to it,” Lebusa told the media.

“I’ve watched a couple of games from Sundowns (Champions League) and could see that they play different teams from different leagues so obviously their mentality is different than how we play back at home,” he added.

“So, I think you have to be mentally strong than anything else, the travelling also plays a big part,” he said.

Lebusa was one of several new faces that were brought in ahead of the new season. The Sundowns technical team have been on a rebuilding mission after parting ways with many of their key figures over recent seasons.

Although, Sundowns have been struggling to find their feet, Lebusa is adamant that they will soon rediscover their best form.

“The coach has been trying so hard for us to bring back the old style of Sundowns, training during the international break and I think we worked really hard on that,” he said.

“He is trying so hard for us to understand, even the new guys who got into the team, to understand the style of play,” he concluded.
