Benni McCarthy tipped to take over as Cape Town City coach

Former South Africa and Orlando Pirates striker Benni McCarthy is reportedly set to become the new Cape Town City head coach.

The position became vacant after Eric Tinkler resigned last week and he was unveiled as the new SuperSport United head coach.

Several names including Argentine legend Gabriel Batistuta, Bulgarian tactician Hristo Stoichkov and Dutch coach Ruud Krol have been linked with City job.

However, according to Sport24, McCarthy arrived in Cape Town on Friday to discuss the possibility of him coaching City with club boss John Comitis.

He has been jobless since leaving Belgian First Division A club Sint-Truidense V.V at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

McCarthy, who has a Uefa A coaching license, was serving as the assistant coach at Sint-Truidense.
