Bafana Bafana midfielder Mahlangu on the brink of league and cup double in Romania

Bafana Bafana midfielder May Mahlangu is happy that he might win the league this weekend when his side Dinamo Bucuresti take on Astra.

Bucuresti are also in the Romanian Cup final where they will play ACS Poli Timisoara on May 20.

“God has been great. I might win the league on Saturday as we are playing the last game. We are also in the Romanian Cup final and we are playing a team called ACS Poli Timisoara,” Mahlangu told Sowetan.

The Secunda-born midfielder believes he has finally made his mark at the club after starting from the bench to gradually become a regular first team player.

Furthermore, Mahlangu is happy with the 24 appearances he has managed to achieve so far and admits he will one day return to his home country and ‘live like a king’.

“It’s been a journey from the bench to consistency for 90 minutes. Rest assured, I’ve made my mark. I’ve settled in quite well but there’s always room for improvement,” Mahlangu said.

“I guess I’m used to it now. Over the years, I’ve learnt I will suffer when I’m in another land, but there will come a time where I will go home and be able to appreciate all my efforts and live like a king,” Mahlangu said in response to his 24 appearances thus far.

Mahlangu will become the first South African-born player to win silverware in Romania.

He reiterates his commitment to the national team after the love-hate relationship he has endured with the association.

“As I’ve said before, call me any time I’m ready. I’m looking forward to donning my national colours with pride. It’s time to make South Africans proud,” Mahlangu said.
