United States youth international Andrew Carleton scored a goal as Atlanta United picked up a friendly win over Chattanooga in their first ever match.
Atlanta’s XI for Tata Martino featured its many big-name acquisitions, and picked up a comfortable win over the NPSL side by a 4-0 scoreline.
Less than 10 minutes into the contest, one of those stars, Miguel Almiron went on an impressive run before setting up Tito Villalba for the finish, the first in Atlanta United history.
While the opposition was not quite at the level Atlanta will see in MLS this year, their second goal, courtesy of Yamil Asad, would have been near-impossible for any keeper to save.
Martino made wholesale changes for the second 45, including the introduction of 16-year-old Carleton and the second pick of the MLS SuperDraft, Julian Gressel. The latter made his presence felt as he took the space given to him to deliver a cross that was finished off by a Josef Martinez diving header.
Carleton then put his mark on the game as he capitalised on the Chattanooga’s keeper spill to make it 4-0.New York Red Bulls.
