The Gunners star found the target in a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Scotland, with that effort his first for his country since October 2015

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has finally brought his barren spell for England in front of goal to a close, after 607 days.

The Arsenal midfielder, who made his debut in 2012, netted five times for his country in three years.

'Aguero perfect for Arsenal'

He has, however, had to wait the best part of two years before adding to his tally.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was back among the goals against Scotland in a crunch 2018 World Cup qualifier, with his second-half effort breaking the deadlock in a keenly-fought contest.

The 23-year-old now has two efforts against Scotland to his name, having previously netted in a 2014 friendly encounter.

He will hope that there are many more to come and that he can nail down a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

'Sterling must improve end product'

Oxlade-Chamberlain did find himself frozen out for long periods as he struggled for fitness and consistency, with injury preventing him from appearing at Euro 2016.

His future with the Gunners has been called into question of late, but the 2016-17 campaign saw him make 45 appearances in all competitions – a career high.
