Al Wahda were crowned as winners of the UAE Year of Zayed Super Cup toady when they defeated Al Jazira. They won 2-0 at the Baniyas Stadium in Abu Dhabi with goals from Mourad Batna and Balazs Dszudszak.
The first half was very exciting with both teams attempting to play on the front foot, but it was Al Wahda who struck first when they took advantage of a defender’s mistake. Sebastian Tagliabue shot at goal but it struck the post before Mourad Batna shot the ball into an empty net.
Al Wahda continued to look for their second goal in the second half and it started in the 46th minute when Ismail Matar’s shot went just past Ali Khaseif’s post. In the 59th minute, Khaseif brought down Matar in the penalty box to give away a penalty which Dszudszak put away in the right corner of the net.
In the last 15 minutes of the game both teams still looked to attack especially Al Wahda with Batna and Tagliabue, with the latter almost scoring twice. Al Jazira attempted, but failed, to score with their attempts being limited to individual attacks only. The final whistle blew and Al Wahda were crowned champions for the 3rd time in their history.
