Nikola Kavazovic is set to honour the contract he signed with AFC Leopards.

The former Township Rollers coach left for Serbia to attend to his sick father but reports later emerged that he was leading the race to succeed Luc Eymael at Free State Stars in South Africa. A close source to the Serbian coach confirmed to Goal that the coach had agreed terms to sign for the team.

However, it has now emerged that Kavazovic has changed his heart and will return to Kenya to handle the former league winners. Ingwe opened their campaign in the KPL league with a 1-1 draw against Kariobangi Sharks, a result that coach Kavazovic savoured from his unknown location.

“Kavazovic will return to Kenya to honour his contract with AFC Leopards. I don’t want to talk about what happened between him and Free State Stars but all I know he will be in Kenya soon,” the source told

On Friday, AFC Leopards  conceded that they will not stop the coach from leaving the club if he gets a better offer. Ingwe Organizing Secretary General Timothy Lilumbi said Kavazovic, who penned a two-yard contract in October, will only be required to return the signing-on fee if he wants to leave.

“As far as we are concerned, he’s still our coach, but we cannot stop him from moving if he has a better offer elsewhere. He will just have to write to the club and return the signing on fee to the club.

“He still has a contract with us and until that time he will return the cash, we consider him as such. I’ve seen the rumours on social media, but let it be known that Nikola still has a contract with AFC Leopards.”

Kavazovic’s’ assistant Marko Vasiljevic was in charge of the team on Sunday.
