Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns could battle Kaizer Chiefs for the services of Free State Stars versatile defender Daniel Cardoso.

Goal has been informed that Chiefs are leading the race for Cardoso by a source very close to the 26-year-old former University of Pretoria center-half.

"Well yes, at the moment Wits and Chiefs have both registered their interest in Daniel. Even though, Chiefs have been interested in him since last year and they seem keener than Wits at this stage, but I can't rule out Sundowns yet," the source told Goal.

The Johannesburg-born player's impressive exploits in Stars colours this season haven't gone unnoticed, as he was handed his first Bafana Bafana cap against Swaziland last week.

"He's an international player now, and he'll probably go to the highest bidder this Winter. We all know that Stars don't stand on the way of players, who are looking for greener pastures," the source concluded.

The former Orlando Pirates reserve team, Yebo Yes United player has made 14 Absa Premiership starts for Stars thus far this season.
