The Ethiopian has joined the Clever Boys on a six-month contract after his time with Atletico de Kolkata in the Indian Super League came to an end. Fikru became prominent whilst playing for Orlando Pirates back in 2006, before moving to SuperSport United two years later where he won back-to-back titles under Hunt between 2008 and 2009.
He has had spells with the likes of FK Mlada Boleslav, KuPS and Thanh Hoa. Apart from that, he also played for Free State Stars, AmaTuks and Milano United, and Hunt believes the 28-year-old hitman still has what it takes.
"What do you think I should say, yes or no?" Hunt responded when quizzed about the quality of the forward.
"We are short of at least one striker and look given that he has played here before in the PSL, I strongly believe he can do the job for us because he still has many years of football left in him," Hunt told Goal.
"We have signed him on a six-month deal and let's see, though I strongly believe he will come good for us" added Hunt.
One player Asive Langwe was a prominent figure in the club's rise to the Nedbank Cup final last year, but he's yet to kic
"Now where does this come from, Asive Langwe?... Look, the reason why he hasn't been playing until now is because he was injured at the start of the seasona, and when he returned the team was doing well and as you would understand the team was doing well and he just can't come in and break into the team despite the good season he had previously," Hunt continued.
The Clever Boys are currently third in the Absa Premiership standings, tied on 31 points with champions Mamelodi Sundowns. They resume their campaign against Maritzburg United away from home on February 10.
