Clive Barker appointed the new MP Black Aces coach

Former Bafana and Bidvest Wits coach Clive Barker has been appointed the new Mpumalanga Black Aces coach for the next two seasons

Former Bidvest Wits and Bafana coach Clive Barker has accepted the offer to coach the new PSL boys Mpumalanga Black Aces after signing a two-year contract.

The Mpumalanga-based club announced on Thursday that Barker will start his new job on Monday July 8, 2013 to prepare for their pre-season training.

Barker replaces Jacob Sakala who was informed of the decision to appoint a “more experienced” coach immediately after guiding AmaZayoni back into the PSL.

The former AmaZulu mentor has vowed to keep the majority of the players that helped the team regain its PSL status, but he wants them to fight for their positions.

“I will be using the first week to assess the quality of the players, and I intend being transparent by giving them all an opportunity.

“The existing players are all in the starting line-up and will have to convince me that they are the right players to make Aces a competitive outfit in the PSL,” Barker told the Aces website.

Although the 68-year-old Barker has not decided on his technical team for the new season, he is however, planning to work closely with the new technical advisor Jacob Sakala.

“I will rely largely on all the expertise gained from last season and will welcome the input from last year’s technical team,” added Barker.
