Mashaba includes Mhlongo, Mncwango and Thopola in Bafana Bafana squad

Mhlongo has been in scintillating form for Orlando Pirates this season, while Thobani Mncwango, who took Tokelo Rantie's place, scored some important goals for Polokwane City

Bafana Bafana head coach Shakes Mashaba has announced his squad for the penultimate Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against Gambia at the Independce Stadium on June 4, 2016.

Brighton Mhlongo, Diamond Thopola and Thobani Mncwango have all made the squad, while Tokelo Rantie has been left out.

SuperSport United captain Dean Furman as well as Belgium-based midfielder May Mahlangu have both returned to the national team, having done well for their respective teams in recent weeks.

Mamelodi Sundowns winger Keagan Dolly has also been rewarded with a call-up following his impressive form under the tutelage of Pitso Mosimane this season.

Mashaba said all the 23 players were selected on merit and he is confident of beating Gambia away from home, although he admitted that it's not going to be easy.

"All the players on the list were selected on merit. Also, the way we see things will differ," Mashaba told reporters.

"Brighton Mhlongo has done well, he deserves this call-up. Mncwango is banging in the goals and that's an issue for us," he said.

"No one wants to lose against South Africa, even those at the bottom of the log, beating SA will mean a lot to them," continued the Bafana boss.

He conceded that Bafana might not qualify for the upcoming Afcon tournament, but has urged the country to rally behind the team as they still have 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying matches to look forward to.

"We might not qualify for the Afcon, but there's still World Cup qualifiers coming up, we must also look ahead to that," he added.
