It's Freiburg who will play Leipzig or Union Berlin in the DFB-Pokal final at Olympiastadion next month, then. They'll have to wait to find out who exactly they'll face, but they'll believe they can lift this famous cup for the first time. That's all for now. Goodbye!
Hamburg attempted just 12 shots in this game, their lowest total in a single match in the DFB-Pokal this season. Freiburg could have played on the front foot but didn't need to. Instead, they did an excellent job of picking their inferior opponents off early on and keeping them at bay after that. They'll be a tough test for whoever faces them in the final.
Freiburg celebrate as the referee blows his whistle! They've made it to their first-ever DFB-Pokal final! Streich's men got the job done in the first half with three clinically taken goals by Petersen, Hofler and Grifo. After that, they just sat back and held Hamburg off. Hamburg were unlucky not to score in the first half and finally pulled a goal back through Glatzel's late header. By that point though, the game was long lost.
90' + 4' Freiburg enjoy the last shot of the game. Haberer looks for the bottom right corner from the centre of the box. Heuer Fernandes gets down low to stop it.
N. Weißhaupt
Yellow Card
90' + 3' Weisshaupt trots over to set up the corner before leaving it for Holer to take. The referee books the substitute for wasting time.
90' + 3' Gunter's free-kick rebounds off Hamburg's defensive wall and out for a Freiburg corner down their left.
K. Sildillia
J. Schmid
90' + 2' Before the free-kick's taken, Freiburg's right-back Schmid goes off. Sildillia replaces him.
M. Heyer
Yellow Card
90' + 1' Heyer's poor challenge earns him a yellow card. Freiburg get busy planning what they'll do with the free-kick.
90' There'll be four more minutes of this. Freiburg get a welcome opportunity to wind down the clock as Heyer trips Weisshaupt in a central position. The free-kick's close enough to goal for someone to shoot from it.
89' Demirovic hits the right-hand post with a curling shot from outside the box! It pings off the upright and back into play. That would have been the goal of the game had it gone in.
M. Muheim
88' Muheim's delivery for Glatzel there was lovely, and Glatzel's finish gave Flekken no chance. Hamburg will be pleased to have a consolation goal at least.
R. Glatzel
88' GOAL! HAMBURG 1-3 FREIBURG! Hamburg finally get a goal for all their positional dominance, but it's come far too late to affect the outcome. Glatzel guides a header into the top left corner from Muheim's left-wing cross.
87' Kittel's pop at goal from distance isn't close to testing Flekken. Muheim catches Haberer with a late tackle and escapes a yellow card.
G. Chakvetadze
A. Suhonen
85' Suhonen's game is over. He's been Hamburg's best player. It's not his fault they lost this game in the first half. Chakvetadze replaces him.
83' Alidou has taken up Jatta's shift on Hamburg's right wing. His first attempt to worry Freiburg works as well as most of his predecessor's, as his cross is blocked. Freiburg easily clear the resulting corner.
F. Alidou
J. Vagnoman
82' Vagnoman's next to go off. Hamburg give Alidou a run-out for the last 10 minutes.
M. Muheim
B. Jatta
82' That's Jatta's last action of the game. The Swiss midfielder Muheim comes on for Hamburg.
81' Jatta shoots from outside the box. Freiburg get somebody in the way of it. It's all too easy for the visitors.
N. Weißhaupt
V. Grifo
79' Grifo, who killed the game by putting Freiburg 3-0 up with his penalty, also leaves the pitch. Weisshaupt comes on.
J. Haberer
Jeong Woo-Yeong
79' Freiburg substitution. Woo-Yeong goes off. Haberer comes on.
78' Hamburg try to find Suhonen in the penalty area, but Freiburg get to the ball first and get rid. It's been the pattern for most of the last 40 minutes.
76' Suhonen shoots from a tight angle to the right of the box. It's blocked, and Hamburg get a corner which turns into another. After the second corner, Suhonen lets fly from way out. He can't keep his effort down though.
M. Kaufmann
Yellow Card
74' Hamburg's substitute Kaufmann catches Schlotterbeck with a high foot. That's another yellow card.
73' Not a huge amount is going on. Freiburg keep letting Hamburg keep the ball at the back before winning it back once they cross the halfway line. Woo-Yeong's shot from outside the box is blocked.
N. Schlotterbeck
Yellow Card
71' Schlotterbeck lands his name in the book for stumbling into the onrushing Jatta from behind.
M. Kaufmann
L. Reis
69' Hamburg make their first change of the game. Kaufmann comes on for the booked Reis.
68' Hamburg haven't given up hope just yet. Glatzel chests a cross down for Kittel, and the attacking midfielder blasts at goal from the edge of the box. It's straight at Flekken, who saves comfortably.
66' Hamburg get a corner out of Schlotterbeck. It's uneventful. Most of this second half has been, to be honest.
L. Höler
R. Sallai
64' Sallai heads off too. Holer replaces him for Freiburg.
E. Demirović
N. Petersen
64' Petersen makes way for Demirovic. He set Freiburg on their way with his opening goal, giving them a grip on this match they haven't relinquished since.
N. Höfler
Yellow Card
63' Hofler's the next player to be booked for a late tackle on Reis. There'll be a few substitutions now.
62' Hamburg's possession in this half has shot up to 73 per cent, and yet both sides have had two shots each. It's like watching someone's dad let their child think they can beat them before casually proving otherwise.
60' Schmid gets a free-kick in his own half as he's challenged too hard by Kittel.
58' Suhonen looks for a header in the box, but quickly finds himself closed down by Freiburg defenders before nodding Reis' cross wide. Freiburg are holding Hamburg at arm's length.
C. Günter
Yellow Card
57' Gunter's booked for crudely shunting Glatzel off the ball as Hamburg attack down their right.
56' Petersen spots Heuer Fernandes off his line and tries to loop the ball over him from the edge of the box. The Hamburg keeper catches it without any trouble.
54' Freiburg are still threatening when they can. Sallai lashes into the side netting from distance.
52' Hamburg just aren't getting any luck in this game. It's what they needed to get past Freiburg, in honesty, but fortune isn't favouring them at all. They get another corner that leads to nothing.
50' Jatta forces Flekken into action! Kittel earns Hamburg a free-kick in Freiburg's half as he's brought down by Sallai. Kittel takes it quickly and Jatta's low strike from a tight angle is saved by the Freiburg keeper at his near post.
L. Reis
Yellow Card
48' Reis is booked for deliberately handling the ball. He can have no complaints.
47' Hamburg start this half brightly, getting a corner out of Sallai down their left. It doesn't lead to much, but it's a start.
46' Freiburg get the second half started amidst a plume of smoke created by their fans in the away end.
Hamburg had 59 per cent possession in that first half. However, Freiburg have been the more threatening side, racking up six shots to the hosts' four. Had Suhonen's goal for Hamburg stood, the visitors might have been a bit more nervous in the second half. As things are, they'll fancy their chances of shutting this game down now.
Freiburg are 45 minutes from the DFB-Pokal final. The Bundesliga team have given second-tier Hamburg a masterclass in clinical finishing. Petersen's header gave the visitors the lead early on, before they doubled it thanks to Hofler's deflected shot. Heyer's clumsy kick allowed Grifo to make it 3-0 from the spot. Suhonen has had a few chances for Hamburg, having a shot saved by Flekken and a goal ruled out for offside. Apart from that, Hamburg have been second best.
45' + 1' Vagnoman drills the ball low across the face of goal from the left. Flekken has it covered.
45' The officials indicate a minimum of two added minutes at the end of this first half. It's been a tough one for Hamburg.
43' Meffert's penalised for an innocuous handball. Freiburg are quite happy coasting to half-time given the scoreline.
41' Vagnoman's caught offside from Kittel's throughball. Hamburg are trying their best but are struggling to break down Freiburg's stubborn defence.
39' NO GOAL FOR HAMBURG! Suhonen's strike is ruled out for offside. On second viewing, the Finn had clearly moved too early to latch onto Vagnoman's throughball. Hamburg need a goal to just about get back into this game.
38' GOAL! HAMBURG 1-3 FREIBURG! Hamburg have pulled a goal back through Suhonen! The Finnish forward beats Freiburg's high line to reach Vagnoman's pass, bear down on goal and slot past Flekken with ease. There's a hint of offside about the goal, so it's examined by VAR...
J. Meffert
Yellow Card
37' Meffert picks up the game's first yellow card for halting Grifo's counter-attacking run.
36' Hamburg's fans aren't entirely pleased with how things are going for their team. The hosts win a corner down their right. Freiburg defend it easily.
V. Grifo
Penalty Goal
35' GOAL! HAMBURG 0-3 FREIBURG! This semi-final feels over as a contest already. Grifo steps up and dispatches the penalty kick confidently past Heuer Fernandes. It's hard to see a way back for Hamburg now.
33' PENALTY FOR FREIBURG! The referee watches the video back and points immediately to the spot! That's such a silly penalty for Hamburg to gave away. Heyer's swipe at the bouncing ball was clumsy, and Schlotterbeck was never going to be able to do anything with it from his position on the floor.
32' Freiburg have Schlotterbeck down in Hamburg's box as the defender takes a little kick to the back of the head from Heyer as he slips. Play continues for a while before it's eventually stopped. Streich harangues the officials for taking so long! Eventually, the referee is advised to go take a second look at the incident...
31' Schlotterbeck and Grifo combine to cut out Hamburg's latest attack. Freiburg end up winning a minor free-kick. Hamburg's boss Walter looks restless in the dugout.
29' Jatta shoots with his left foot from the edge of the box. The Gambian's effort whistles just wide of the bottom left corner of Flekken's goal.
28' Now they're comfortably in front, Freiburg seem quite content to soak up pressure and try to hit Hamburg on the break. Hamburg have had 59 per cent of the ball so far.
26' Freiburg waste the throw-in and Hamburg can counter! Kittel dances into the box on his favoured right foot and passes to Suhonen, who shoots first time from the penalty spot. Flekken is equal to the shot! Jatta can't get his feet together to test the Freiburg goalkeeper again.
25' Freiburg sit back for a while, inviting Hamburg to come onto them. In the end the Bundesliga side win the ball back. Gunter beats Meffert to a pass down the left. The ball bounces off the corner flag to hand the visitors a throw-in.
23' Hamburg are making some tentative progress. They've got a mountain to climb already though. Jatta's speculative cross is cleared.
21' Hamburg huff and puff for a while in Freiburg's half but don't get anywhere. Meffert's penalised for impeding the defending Woo-Yeong.
19' Freiburg have a habit of racing out of the traps. They've scored five first-half goals in four games in the DFB-Pokal this season. Only fellow semi-finalists RB Leipzig have scored more in the opening 45 minutes in this year's competition.
N. Höfler
17' GOAL! HAMBURG 0-2 FREIBURG! This may be Freiburg's time! Heuer Fernandes' pass out from a goal-kick is poor and Freiburg press his teammates immediately. Hofler shoots from the edge of the box and it takes a big deflection to loop over the goalline!
15' Freiburg win a second corner in succession. Again, Hamburg manage to survive, but they're under pressure for the time being.
14' Freiburg sense weakness amongst the Hamburg ranks. They're already trying to extend their lead. Sallai's shot from the right of the box is blocked. The visitors win a corner.
12' That's Petersen's second goal in the DFB-Pokal this season, and how important it could be! Freiburg have avoided defeat in their last five DFB-Pokal matches when they've scored the opening goal. They'll be hoping that record continues to stand here.
N. Petersen
11' GOAL! HAMBURG 0-1 FREIBURG! The Bundesliga side have the lead through Petersen! The corner comes in and is kept alive by Lienhart. Heuer Fernandes flaps at the follow-up cross and the Freiburg striker nods it into the net before Hamburg's goalkeeper can recover! After a quick VAR check to make sure no one's offside, the goal stands!
11' Freiburg are starting to get a grip of things. They earn another corner down their left...
9' Jatta's cross from the right is wayward. Hamburg may be a division below their visitors, but they're not playing like it so far.
7' From a Hamburg throw-in down the left, Glatzel slams a curling shot directly into Schlotterbeck, who has his arms behind his back.
5' Another early opportunity comes Hamburg's way. Kittel's low shot from outside the box is saved easily by Flekken.
4' Both sides look purposeful in these opening stages. Sallai gets down the right and finds the head of Grifo who can't keep his header down. Up the other end, Jatta crosses for Glatzel who also nods off-target.
2' Freiburg win an early corner down their left as Heuer Fernandes catches a cross that strays just out of play. Lienhart heads Grifo's delivery well over the crossbar.
1' The hosts Hamburg get this match underway!
The two teams walk onto the pitch: Hamburg in their white shirts and red shorts, Freiburg in their black away kit. The fans of both sides at Volksparkstadion are putting on a great display. It's a proper cup semi-final atmosphere!
There's just the one change to Freiburg from their own 3-0 home victory over Bochum last time out. Schmid replaces Lukas Kubler at right-back.
Hamburg make two changes to their team from their last league match, a 3-0 win here over Karlsruher. Kittel and Reis replace Alidou and Kaufmann in the starting 11.

For Freiburg, this game might be even bigger. Christian Streich's team may be having a great season, sitting fifth in the Bundesliga and pushing for Champions League qualification, but they've never made it to a DFB-Pokal final. They may be historically smaller than Hamburg, but they're the nominal favourites in this match. Their cup final drought may be about to end.
Second-division Hamburg have a rare opportunity to make it to their first DFB-Pokal final since 1987, a match they went on to win 3-1 against Stuttgarter Kickers to lift the club's last major trophy. With promotion to the Bundesliga looking unlikely at the time of writing, making it to the last match of Germany's biggest domestic cup is an opportunity Tim Walter's men won't want to pass up.
