That brings an end to our coverage of the LaLiga clash between Atletico Madrid and Huesca at Wanda Metropolitano. Thank you very much for joining us. Goodbye!
Atletico will hope to continue their winning form when they travel to face Athletic Bilbao next time out in LaLiga. Huesca, meanwhile, will look to improve their survival chances against Getafe. Both games take place on Sunday.
After a fairly one-sided contest, Atletico claim a valuable three points against Huesca and head back to the top of LaLiga. Both sides spurned clear-cut chances in the opening minutes, before the hosts broke the deadlock through Correa’s deflected strike shortly before half-time. Simeone’s team pushed for a second after the restart, and effectively secured the points on 80 minutes after Llorente capitalised on a defensive mix-up to slide in Carrasco, and VAR allowed the Belgian’s finish to stand.
90' + 4' FULL TIME: ATLETICO MADRID 2-0 HUESCA
90' + 2' CLOSE! Following a quick counter, Dembele is forced to drive down the left side of the box. From a tight angle, the forward lashes a well-struck left-footed shot over the bar.
90' There will be three minutes of added time at the end of this match.
89' GREAT CHANCE! Ferreiro shows quick feet to skip away from his man and loft a cross into the back post. The hosts fail to clear their lines, and somehow Escriche fails to convert Galan’s low cross from only a few yards out. He should have scored.
Felipe
Renan Lodi
87' Los Rojiblancos' last substitution sees Lodi replaced by Felipe. It remains 2-0.
Vitolo
Saúl
87' Simeone brings off the recently-booked Saul for Vitolo for the closing stages.
Borja García
Pablo Ínsua
85' Huesca’s final change sees Garcia enter the fray in place of Insua.
Pedro López
Sergio Gómez
85' In response to going two goals behind, Rojo Martin brings on Lopez for Gomez.
L. Torreira
Á. Correa
84' The hosts are looking to see this game out now. Correa makes way for Torreira.
G. Kondogbia
Y. Carrasco
84' After doubling their lead, Simeone calls on his bench. With six minutes left of normal time, Carrasco, who scored the second goal, is replaced by Kondogbia.
Saúl
Yellow Card
83' Saul picks up a late yellow card for cynically tripping Sandro midway inside the home side’s half.
82' Following that second goal, Atletico now look to be heading back to the top of LaLiga.
Llorente
Assist
80' Llorente was alert to the situation and spotted that Siovas was shaping to play a pass back to his goalkeeper. He followed the ball, made a timely challenge, and put it on a plate for Carrasco. Fernandez stood no chance.
Y. Carrasco
Goal
80' GOOOOOAAAAALL! Atletico double their lead! Dembele gets away down the right flank, and Doumbia and Siovas make a mess of clearing the ball on the edge of the box. Llorente pounces to steal possession, before squaring it for Carrasco to tap into the back of the net from only a few yards out. VAR checks for offside against the Belgian, but the goal stands. 2-0.
78' VITAL TACKLE! Some intricate play on the edge of the box sees Gomez cut inside of his man and thread a delicate throughball into Sandro. The substitute knocks the ball past Gimenez and, just as he was shaping to shoot, Lodi gets across to slide the ball behind for a corner.
M. Dembélé
H. Herrera
76' With 14 minutes of normal time left to play, Simeone makes his first alteration. Dembele comes onto the field in place of Herrera.
75' Trippier delivers an out-swinging corner from the right into the centre of the box, and it ricochets high into the air off Saul, before Fernandez gathers it.
74' Siovas catches Llorente with a sliding tackle, and Simeone’s team win another free-kick just inside the Huesca half.
72' GOOD STRIKE! Koke spots Llorente’s run ahead of him and sets the attacker away down the right flank. The Spaniard gets away from Siovas and pulls the ball back to the edge of the box, where Saul unleashes a first-time shot that Fernandez keeps out at his far post.
71' Pulido steps up to the halfway line and barges Correa to the ground from behind. The referee awards the hosts a free-kick.
70' Atletico have kept clean sheets in nine of their 16 home LaLiga games this season, the joint-most alongside Sevilla.
68' Galan tries to knock the ball beyond Trippier and break down the left flank, but the Englishman stands his ground and uses his strength to block off the substitute.
66' NOT FAR AWAY! Gomez steps up to take the resulting set-piece from a central position a few yards outside of Atletico's box, and bends it just wide to the right of Oblak’s goal.
J. Giménez
Yellow Card
65' The away side work the ball forward quickly, and, in seeking to make an interception, Gimenez catches Escriche’s ankle and picks up a yellow card. He can have no complaints with that decision.
David Ferreiro
S. Okazaki
63' Rojo Martin turns to his bench just after the hour mark. Ferreiro comes on for Okazaki.
Javier Galán
Pedro Mosquera
63' It is a triple change for Huesca, with Mosquera making way for Galan. It is still 1-0.
Sandro Ramírez
Rafa Mir
63' Sandro also enters the fray in place of Mir.
61' Llorente goes down under pressure from Siovas midway inside the Atletico half, and the referee tells the Spaniard to get back to his feet.
59' From the resulting corner, Saul’s header into the ground bounces up into Fernandez’s gloves.
59' SMART STOP! Lodi finds himself in a yard of space and drives into the left side of the visitors’ penalty area. As Mosquera comes across to cover, the Brazilian fires a shot towards the near post, which Fernandez turns behind for a corner.
58' Los Rojiblancos are in complete control of proceedings at present. Huesca have everyone back in their half when Atletico are in possession, and they are not engaging with a high press.
56' Huesca look to build from the back, but Atletico are quickly getting back into their defensive shape to deny the away side any space.
54' If this result stays the same, Simeone’s team will re-establish their three-point lead over Real Madrid at the top of LaLiga.
52' The hosts work a short corner to the left side of the box, where Koke is placed to lift in a cross. Gimenez rises well to meet it, but his header is steered straight at Fernandez.
50' Lodi once again drives beyond the visitors’ defence, and Rico gets back to steer a lofted throughball behind for a corner.
48' ALMOST A SECOND! Lodi combines with Carrasco to get in behind the Huesca defence before picking out Correa. From an acute angle, the Argentinian knocks the ball back across the goal, and Fernandez makes himself big to deny Koke from close range.
46' We are back under way! Munuera Montero, the referee, blows his whistle and Atletico get the second half kicked off.
46' SAVE! Atletico are straight onto the front foot after the restart. Llorente drives down the right flank, pulls the ball back to Koke, and his curling effort from inside the box is gathered in the centre of the goal by Fernandez.
Simeone will be delighted with his team’s first-half performance and will want much of the same after the restart. Lodi has had plenty of joy down the left-hand side of the field, while Llorente’s selfless running in behind has created space for Atletico to exploit in central areas. Siovas’ early chance, meanwhile, will give Rojo Martin hope that Huesca can get back into the game in the second half. Mir and Okazaki have been far too isolated up top thus far, and that will need to change in the remaining 45 minutes.
After a confident first-half showing, Atletico go into the break with a one-goal lead. The away side came close to breaking the deadlock within the opening three minutes, but Oblak made a point-blank save to deny Siovas following a corner. Shortly after, Fernandez kept out Carrasco and Saul, but the hosts got their breakthrough seven minutes from half-time. An incisive move down the right ended with Correa picking out the bottom-right corner via a slight deflection off Pulido.
45' + 1' HALF TIME: ATLETICO MADRID 1-0 HUESCA
45' There will be one minute of added time at the end of the first half.
43' Atletico are unbeaten in their last 27 home LaLiga games against newly promoted sides under Simeone.
41' Oblak looks to let a loose pass run behind for a goal-kick, and Mir pushes him from behind in trying to latch onto the ball. Atletico are awarded a free-kick inside their own box.
Llorente
Assist
39' That is a wonderfully well-worked goal by the home side. Trippier and Llorente injected a much-needed bit of pace into the attack, and Correa did well to skip beyond Insua’s lunging challenge before placing the ball out of Fernandez’s reach.
Á. Correa
Goal
39' GOOOOAAAAALL! Atletico take the lead! Koke’s long, searching pass down the right picks out Trippier, and the full-back plays it inside for Llorente. The Spaniard looks for a give-and-go with Correa, but the forward spins onto his left foot and fires into the bottom-right corner from the centre of the box after a deflection off Pulido. 1-0.
38' Rojo Martin’s team are enjoying their best spell of possession at present. That said, they are finding it difficult to break out of their own half with Atletico still applying relentless pressure.
36' Gomez finds space down the right-hand side of the field and opts to deliver an out-swinging cross. Oblak is quickly off his line to claim the ball in the centre of the box.
34' Los Rojiblancos are working the working the ball from side to side as they look to carve out an opening. The hosts win a corner to the right off Siovas, and Trippier’s delivery is nodded down by Herrera and cleared by Huesca's Greek defender.
32' Mosquera lifts his head up and looks to switch the play over to the left for Gomez. His pass, however, is overhit and runs out for a goal-kick.
30' After Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Cadiz on Wednesday night, a draw will be enough to send Atletico back to the top of LaLiga.
28' Lodi continues to find space in behind down the left wing. Gimenez’s cross-field pass picks him out in an advanced position, and Siovas is alert to the danger in the box to hook the Brazilian’s low cross to safety.
27' Huesca have played more (3) LaLiga games without scoring against Atletico than against any other opponent in the competition.
25' Doumbia tries to make amends after losing possession with a heavy touch, and pushes Lodi to the ground. The hosts win a free-kick a few yards inside their half.
23' Trippier sets Correa away in behind the Huesca defence, and his knockdown drops on the edge of the box for Carrasco, who fires straight at Insua. The ball bounces behind for a corner, which comes to nothing.
21' Escriche is a little too eager to regain possession from Lodi and concedes a free-kick just inside the Atletico half.
19' Rico’s outside-of-the-foot cross from a deep area down the right deflects off Lodi and almost falls kindly for Mir at the back post, although he is just unable to keep it in play.
17' Huesca are struggling to get out of their own half at present. Koke slides Lodi in down the left flank, and the defender’s lofted cross is headed clear by Pulido.
15' After a good spell of sustained possession, the home side work the ball into a central area for Carrasco. The Belgian takes a touch to set himself and fires a tame long-range drive straight at Fernandez.
14' Lodi makes a positive run down the left flank before his low cross is collected by Fernandez.
12' NOT FAR AWAY! A chipped pass from Trippier into the inside-right channel finds Herrera on the edge of the Huesca box. He knocks the ball over the top of Mosquera, cuts onto his left foot, and lashes a fiercely struck shot wide of the far post.
10' DOUBLE SAVE! Llorente gets played in down the right side of the visitors’ penalty area, and he pulls it back for Carrasco. The Belgian’s first-time shot from close range is kept out by Fernandez’s legs, before Saul’s follow-up strike cannons off the Huesca goalkeeper and behind for a corner.
8' From the resulting set-piece, Gimenez’s header from the centre of the box drew a fine save from Fernandez, but the referee blew for a free-kick against the defender. He was climbing over the back of Siovas.
7' Trippier drives down the right-hand side of the field and connects with a long, sweeping pass. The full-back gets the ball out of his feet, but his cross is blocked behind for a corner by Gomez.
5' Rico catches Lodi and the home side win a free-kick down the left flank.
3' WHAT A CHANCE! The visitors win a free-kick in an advanced position down the left flank following a handball from Savic. The out-swinging delivery into the back post falls to Siovas, and somehow Oblak claws out the defender’s close-range effort before pouncing on the rebound.
1' Kick-off! The referee, Jose Luis Munuera Montero, blows his whistle and Huesca get the game under way.
The teams are out, and kick-off will soon be upon us here at Wanda Metropolitano.
Atletico have avoided defeat in their last three LaLiga games against Huesca (W2 D1), keeping a clean sheet in all three.
Simeone’s team were overtaken at the top of LaLiga by Real Madrid, who beat Cadiz on Wednesday night, but this is a chance to go back to the summit. Los Rojiblancos have been in fine form at home, losing just one of their last six LaLiga matches at Wanda Metropolitano. Huesca, on the other hand, are in 17th place but level on points with Valladolid below them. In the midst of a relegation battle, the visitors will be seeking to win their third game on the road in seven matches.
Diego Simeone names the same line-up that beat Eibar last time out. Luis Suarez and Joao Felix are out with muscle and ankle problems, respectively, while Thomas Lemar is absent with a thigh issue. Jose Rojo Martin, on the other hand, makes six alterations to his starting team. Siovas, Escriche, Doumbia, Rico, Gomez and Okazaki replace Vavro, Lopez, Ferreiro, Seoane, Galan and Sandro. Pablo Maffeo is still unavailable for selection because of a shoulder injury.
HUESCA SUBS: Andres Fernandez, Denis Vavro, Gaston Silva, Pedro Lopez, Javi Galan, Juan Carlos Real, Jaime Seoane, Borja Garcia, David Ferreiro, Sandro Ramirez.
ATLETICO MADRID SUBS: Ivo Grbic, Sime Vrsaljko, Felipe, Mario Hermoso, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Lucas Torreira, Vitolo, Sergio Camello, Moussa Dembele.
HUESCA (3-5-2): Alvaro Fernandez; Pablo Insua, Jorge Pulido, Dimitrios Siovas; Dani Escriche, Idrissa Doumbia, Pedro Mosquera, Mikel Rico, Sergio Gomez; Rafa Mir, Shinji Okazaki.
ATLETICO MADRID (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Kieran Trippier, Stefan Savic, Jose Gimenez, Renan Lodi; Saul Niguez, Hector Herrera, Koke, Yannick Carrasco; Marcos Llorente, Angel Correa.
Atletico come into this clash off the back of an emphatic 5-0 win over Eibar. On Wednesday, Los Colchoneros became the first Spanish side to withdraw from the European Super League, following in the footsteps of the six founding sides from the Premier League. Now, only Real Madrid and Barcelona remain in the breakaway competition. Huesca, meanwhile, suffered a 1-0 defeat to Alaves last time out.
Hello and welcome to live match coverage of the LaLiga clash between Atletico Madrid and Huesca at Wanda Metropolitano.
