How did Chiefs and Wits fare in their last five meetings?

Kaizer Chiefs welcome Bidvest Wits to the Orlando Stadium with their sights firmly on getting maximum points on the night.

The Glamour Boys have dominated this fixture before with 19 wins, six draws and 10 losses in their last 35 matches against the Students.

But how did the two Gauteng teams fare in their last five league meetings?

  • Gustavo Paez and Sifiso Hlanti - Kaizer Chiefs v Bidvest Wits

    Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 Bidvest Wits

In May 2017, the final match of that season, Amakhosi narrowly beat the Students 1-0, thanks to Gustavo Paez's solitary strike.

Paez scored in the dying minutes of the game to ensure his team walked away with all the points - this was the season Wits lifted the PSL trophy at Amakhosi's territory, the FNB Stadium.

  • Kaizer Chiefs, Kgotso Moleko & Bidvest Wits, Amr Gamal

    Kaizer Chiefs 1-1 Bidvest Wits

In September 2017, Chiefs thought they had secured all the points on offer against Wits after Siphiwe Tshabalala's 43rd-minute goal at FNB Stadium.

However, Wits had other ideas as Amr Gamal fired home to restore parity in the dying minutes of the game which ended in a 1-1 draw.

This despite playing the second half with 10 men after Nazeer Allie was red-carded two minutes before half-time.

  • Ryan Moon & Steve Komphela, Kaizer Chiefs

    Bidvest Wits 1-1 Kaizer Chiefs

In February 2018, both Chiefs and Wits settled for a share of the spoils at Bidvest Stadium.

Ryan Moon gave Amakhosi the lead with a bullet 40th-minute header but a Lehlohonolo Majoro second-half goal cancelled it out.

  • Gift Motupa, Bidvest Wits, 2019

    Kaizer Chiefs 1-3 Bidvest Wits

In August 2018, Amakhosi were humiliated in front of their home fans at FNB Stadium as the Students hammered them 3-1.

Deon Hotto opened the scoring with a stunner of a goal from outside the box but Leonardo Castro levelled matters in the 32nd-minute.

Terrence Dzvukamanja and Gift Motupa scored a goal each in the space of four minutes to steer Wits to a shock win over Chiefs.

  • Hendrick Ekstein Kaizer Chiefs

    Bidvest Wits 0-2 Kaizer Chiefs

These two teams last met in January 2019, and it was the Glamour Boys who got the better of the Clever Boys in Braamfontein.

Leonardo Castro and Hendrick Ekstein were on the scoresheet for Chiefs on the day.

Wits finished that game with a man down after Robyn Johannes was red-carded 90th-minute.
