    WHAT HAPPENED?

Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture Gayton McKenzie has made a commitment concerning a possible comeback of Bloemfontein Celtic to the Premier Soccer League.

The top-flight status of the Free State-based club was sold to businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize, affectionately known as MamKhize, by former owner Max Tshabalala due to financial difficulties in 2021.

Mkhize then renamed the club Royal AM, but some local fans have continually called for the return of Celtic to the elite league.

McKenzie has now commented on the possibility of Siwelele returning to the PSL.

  • WHAT MCKENZIE SAID

"I had such an emotional encounter with Botha, the number one Siwelele supporter, I gave him my absolute word that Siwelele is coming back," McKenzie said.

"I told him that I can vouch with my life for the people who are bringing Siwelele back to the Free State. Many tried and failed but this Group will not fail. Exciting times ahead."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Celtic participated in the Free State ABC Motsepe League for almost five years while attempting to secure promotion to the professional scene.

The club recently withdrew from participating in the third-tier and the owners of the club are said to be eyeing a PSL status.
