    WHAT HAPPENED?

Percy Tau's Qatar SC defeated 10-man Al-Shamal 2-1 in a Qatar Stars League game played at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Two goals from Atta Jaber and Ahmed Abdelkader were sufficient to secure the maximum points for Qatar at home. Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah scored for Al Shamal.

Bafana Bafana forward Tau played 84 minutes in what was his league debut for The King.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The victory at home helped Qatar climb out of the relegation zone in the Qatar Stars League standings, moving three places up from 11th to eighth position.

This marked Tau's first league match since his arrival at the club from Egypt's Al Ahly a few weeks ago. He did not participate in the King's game against Al Sadd, where Qatar achieved a 1-0 victory away from home last week due to illness.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion winger made his official debut for Qatar during their recent heavy loss against Al Nasr in the Qatar-UAE Super Cup.

    WHAT NEXT FOR TAU?

Qatar will face off against Al Ahli in their next league assignment at the Al Thumama Stadium, aiming to continue their impressive performances.

Tau will be focused on enhancing his performances in order to catch the attention of Hugo Broos ahead of the upcoming 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in March.
