Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie piles pressure on Danny Jordaan & Safa after Bafana Bafana slip-up - 'I gave them two deliverables, qualify for Fifa World Cup and Afcon'

Although the Sports Minister is not ready to take immediate action against Jordaan and his department, he has issued a clear ultimatum, demanding significant improvements.&nbsp;The ultimatum underscores the urgency of addressing the minister’s concerns, placing substantial pressure on Jordaan's leadership to rectify the issues or face potential consequences.

WHAT HAPPENED?

“I don’t have full confidence, I’ve got full confidence in the rugby at the moment because full confidence can’t come with talk, it comes with results. I’ve got full confidence in the rugby because the results are there for us to see. The results aren’t there with the soccer, the results aren’t there with the hockey,” McKenzie told the media at the Nedbank handover of the multi-purpose sports court on Monday.&nbsp;“I’m not a man that gets overpowered and gets impressed with words, I like action. I told the man that you are talking about, Dr Danny Jordaan, and I told Safa, I gave them two deliverables. I’m the ultimate accounting authority when it comes to football and sport in this country. I said to them, qualify for the (Fifa) World Cup, qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. I’m giving them all the support now but I can’t be giving people support until kingdom come, that aren’t performing. “A country like ours, qualify for the World Cup, qualify for Afcon, those things are not even difficult. Burkina Faso and those countries that don’t have our type of money in sport (are qualifying). Do you know that we are the most funded league on the African continent, the PSL? How come we can’t win Afcon? How come we can’t be accepted (qualify) for the World Cup?&nbsp;“We mustn’t accept mediocrity, I’m going to make sure I’m public about it, they know it. For now, they have my support but soon if they don’t qualify, we must get people who can qualify. This is a national asset that we are talking about, this is not ‘Jys my bra’ (you are my friend) or ‘I know you’,” he concluded.

WHAT MCKENZIE SAID?

Bafana Bafana are currently competing in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.&nbsp;Their opening match against Uganda on Friday concluded in a disappointing <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/bafana-bafana-battle-back-to-deny-uganda-in-their-opening-2025-africa-cup-of-nations-qualifier/bltcb932993ce87aabd" target="_blank">2-2 draw</a> at Orlando Stadium as they let a lead slip.
