The 36-year-old goalkeeper is presently <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/kaizer-chiefs-take-stern-disciplinary-action-against-goalkeeper-itumeleng-khune/blt8dfc45ed95ac97d4#cs5ee704673054fbc2" target="_blank">under suspension</a> for disciplinary issues, and there is no official statement regarding his return to club duties.&nbsp;Adding to Khune's challenge, he has been excluded from participating in the Carling Knockout Cup All-Star match after fans had voted for him to face winners Stellenbosch on January 6.

“I think his done wonderfully well for Kaizer Chiefs, for the national team and for football and he’s iconic, without a doubt one of the best goalkeepers this country has ever produced,” Makaab said in his slot as co-host of Gagasi FM’s sport show,&nbsp;Extra-Time.“But I do think it’s time for him to hand over the mantle and how wonderful to see Bruce Bvuma who did so well. To see Bruce Bvuma coming into the starting XI, three clean-sheets in three victories, time for the younger generation to start stamping their authority.&nbsp;“And also the unfortunate incident that happened with Itu, with the disciplinary issue, that will without a doubt also influence, I believe, what the club will do going forward (regarding his future).”

WHAT MAKAAB SAID?

Khune's contract with the Naturena-based club is set to expire in June, raising apprehensions that his time at Amakhosi may be drawing to a close.&nbsp;Prior to his suspension, Khune faced challenges on the field, contributing to a tough run for Chiefs. In the five games he started across all competitions, the team lost four and won only one with the veteran in goal.

As Bvuma and Brandon Petersen vie for the top goalkeeping spot, the question lingers on whether Chiefs will extend their long-standing player's contract.Alternatively, the club may explore opportunities for him in a different role within the goalkeeping department, potentially as a coach.
