Pirates Loanees Season Review
Pirates coach Jozef Zinnbauer and his technical team are set to welcome back players who were out on loan during the recent campaign.
The nine players will be hoping that they have done enough to impress the German coach with the new 2020/21 campaign expected to start next month.
Goal takes stock of the performances of Bucs loanees:
Gladwin Shitolo - Golden Arrows
The experienced utility player had a solid season at Arrows where he was a regular under coach Steve Komphela whenever he was fit.
Shitolo made 28 appearances across all competitions and netted once as he excelled in defence and midfield for KwaZulu-Natal side.
Sandile Mthethwa - Chippa United
The towering central defender struggled for game time at Chippa with the club's management chopping and changing coaches (four different coaches).
Mthethwa made just nine appearances across all competitions in what was his debut season in the top-flight league.
Justice Chabalala - Bloemfontein Celtic
The tough-tackling central defender joined Celtic midway through the season and he quickly became a key player.
Chabalala, who helped the team reach the 2020 Nedbank Cup final, featured in 14 matches across all competitions and Celtic have since extended his loan deal for another season.
Tercious Malepe - Chippa United
The South Africa under-23 international is another Pirates loanee who enjoyed a successful season away from the Soweto giants.
Malepe, who was deployed an as defensive midfielder most of the time, featured in 27 competitive matches for the Chilli Boys.
Tebogo Tlolane - Maritzburg United
The left-back-come-winger hit the ground running after joining Maritzburg midway through the campaign as he was a permanent fixture in the starting line-up.
Tlolane made 13 competitive appearances and Maritzburg have confirmed that they are keen to retain his services ahead of the new season.
Diamond Thopola - Chippa United
The experienced defender struggled with injuries upon his return to Chippa, but he played regularly in the bio-bubble as the vice-captain.
Thopola made nine appearances across all competitions while operating as a right-back and centre-back.
- Highlands Park
Brian Hlongwa - Highlands Park
The promising defender secured a move to the Lions of the North at the beginning of the season, but things did not work out for him.
Hlongwa was sent back to Pirates midway through the campaign, having failed to make a single appearance for the team.
Thembela Sikhakhane - AmaZulu FC
The speedy right-back is coming off his third successive loan spell at AmaZulu where he has had his ups and downs.
Sikhakhane was among the five players who were suspended by Usuthu in February 2020, but the suspension was lifted after a month and he featured in 16 competitive games in the campaign.
Meshack Maphangule - Chippa United
The versatile attacker struggled to score goals at Chippa as netted once in 26 matches across all competitions.
However, Maphangule caught the eye with his creative abilities having recorded four assists for the Chilli Boys.
