The Soweto Derby is a must-win for both the fans and teams. Goal picked those who will be even more motivated on the pitch

  1. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo - Kaizer Chiefs

    Nkosingiphile Ngcobo - Kaizer Chiefs

The attacking midfielder has shown glimpses of his immense potential in Chiefs' first three matches of the 2020/21 season.

Ngcobo was one of the standout players as Chiefs defeated Maritzburg United, but he had a quiet game as Amakhosi lost to Mamelodi Sundowns, before producing a Man of the Match performance in the midweek win over Chippa United.

The 20-year-old will be keen to show his undeniable quality and it is in the big games when players show their class.

  2. Happy Jele - Orlando Pirates

The veteran defender was surprisingly left out of the starting line-up in Pirates' first two matches of the new season, with new signing Thulani Hlatshwayo captaining the team

This raised the question of whether Jele will no longer be the first-choice centre back under Josef Zinnbauer, but the 33-year-old made his return to the starting line-up in the midweek draw against Stellenbosch FC.

The Mpumalanga-born player will be eager to prove that he remains a reliable defender and also lead his side to a win in what will be his 27th appearance in the Soweto Derby.

  3. Philani Zulu - Kaizer Chiefs

The left-sided player is yet to make his mark at Chiefs since he joined the club from Maritzburg United in 2017.

Zulu has been played in several positions in including left-back, left-wing and centre midfield during his time at Chiefs and uncertainty remains over his best position, but he excelled as a left-back when Amakhosi defeated Chippa in midweek.

The 28-year-old has been given a chance to impress under Gavin Hunt and he knows that a solid performance in the Soweto Derby will boost his chances of nailing down a permanent place in the starting line-up.

  4. Zakhele Lepasa - Orlando Pirates

The centre forward is behind Frank Mhango and Tshegofatso Mabasa in the pecking order in Pirates' striking department.

However, Mhango is doubtful for the Soweto Derby after picking up a knock in the clash against Stellenbosch, while Mabasa is out nursing an injury which means Lepasa is most likely to spearhead Pirates' attack.

The 23-year-old, who netted twice in two starts across all competitions last season, will be eager to get on the scoresheet and prove to Zinnbauer that he should be a regular in the Pirates starting line-up.

  5. Siyabonga Ngezana - Kaizer Chiefs

The South Africa under-23 international would have been hoping to get some get time with fellow central defender Erick Mathoho out injury.

However, Hunt opted to use Ramahlwe Mphahlele in the central defence in the first two matches of the current season, but it backfired as Chiefs conceded four goals and he was replaced Ngezana, who helped Amakhosi keep a clean sheet against Chippa.

A tall centre-back, who is dominant aerially and a good man marker, Ngezana will be determined to dish out a solid performance in defence and show that he is ready to be a regular in the team.
