#1 Vincent Pule
Vincent Pule would certainly feel hard done by Stuart Baxter's decision to leave him out the Bafana Bafana squad, especially after being a regular member of the squad during the qualifiers.
Pule scored seven league goals for the Buccaneers, and even won the Goal of the Season award, but he lost form in the second half of the season, and perhaps that's the reason Baxter decided to overlook him.
Also, the rise of Thembinkosi Lorch may have contributed to Pule missing out on a spot in Baxter's provisional squad which will be trimmed to 23 come June 10.
#2 Aubrey Modiba
The SuperSport United man was instrumental in his team's top five finish in the league, and his versatility could have perhaps helped Bafana Bafana at the continental showpiece.
Modiba was also a regular member of Baxter's squad during the qualifiers, and he would have to hoped to have done enough to convince the former Matsatsantsa and Kaizer Chiefs mentor that he was good enough to represent South Africa at the Afcon finals.
He was part of the squad that beat Libya in Bafana's final qualifier although he last featured for the 1996 African champions in back-to-back matches against Seychelles.
#3 Dino Ndlovu
Ndlovu's move to China was seen as a step in the direction as he was brought back into the setup soon afterward.
With Bafana struggling to score enough goals, Dino was expected to lead the charge at the Afcon finals, and help boost the confidence of the younger strikers such as Percy Tau and Lebo Mothiba.
Ndlovu scored eight goals in 10 matches in the Chinese league, and perhaps a good enough record to be considered by the technical team.
#4 Thapelo Morena
Morena's versatility makes him one of the best full-backs in the country, and with Ramahlwe Mphahlele nursing a minor injury, it would have been wise for Baxter to include the Sundowns man.
However, Baxter doesn't rate Morena, and it's for this reason the speedy player hasn't been included in any of Baxter's squads in the past.
Perhaps the fact that he was played in an offensive role by Pitso Mosimane was the reason Baxter felt he wouldn't help Bafana at the Afcon finals.
#5 Lebogang Phiri
Phiri was one of the South African players who really raised the country's flag in Europe despite his team's relegation from Ligue 1.
He was considered in previous Bafana Bafana matches, and given the amount of experience gained in France, Phiri would have perhaps been an asset for the national team.
However, Baxter could have overlooked him simply because there are too many players in Phiri's position.
