Mngqithi banks on depth at Mamelodi Sundowns - 'It is how we won the championship'

Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns have been accused&nbsp;of going for quality players <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/give-mokwena-chippa-united-mosimane-coached-small-teams-since-mamelodi-sundowns-signed-new-players-old-ones-are-watching-from-stands-fans/blt8e9da99a78de312b" target="_blank">but end up benching them</a>.This season, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/done-deals-confirmed-transfers-by-psl-clubs-in-2024-25-season/blt4f0c5ae374837ed1#cs8939a62b1f197cb8" target="_blank">they have added some new faces</a> to their squad like Arthur Sales, Kobamelo Kodisang, Kegan Johannes, Asekho Tiwani, and Iqraam Rayners.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Some of the players featured for Masandawana in the MTN8 competition but were unable to help the team get to the final. The Brazilians were eliminated in the semi-final after a 2-0 aggregate loss against Stellenbosch.Coach Manqoba Mngqithi is confident the team will eventually peak up and all the available players will play a massive role in ensuring the Brazilians eventually deliver at the end of the new campaign.&nbsp;The former AmaZulu tactician insists depth is vital for Downs as seen in the past.

"As a club, that is why we recruit so many players so that there is always stiff competition and it is always important to see what other players can do," the 53-year-old stated."Usually, how you start is not how you finish the season. I have learned very good lessons at Sundowns because [when I arrived at the club], the players that started the season were not the ones that finished and that is how we won the championship."Even now, we might be heading in that direction," Mngqithi concluded.

WHAT MNGQITHI SAID

After the MTN8 setback, Masandawana will play Mbabane Swallows in the first leg of the Caf Champions League's second preliminary round.They will then start their Premier Soccer League defence with an interesting Tshwane Derby fixture against SuperSport United.
