The Brazilians will get their title race back underway with a clash against the Buccaneers but which stars do we expect to set this fixture alight?

  • Pitso Mosimane and Rhulani Mokwena - Mamelodi Sundowns July 2020

Which players will set Sundowns vs Pirates alight?

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates will face each other in what is expected to be a mouth-watering clash at Dobsonville Stadium.

Matches between the Brazilians and the Buccaneers have produced nothing but fireworks in the past and there's already an excitement among the fans ahead of this one on Tuesday night.

But which players are expected to set this fixture alight?

  • Ricardo Nascimento, Sundowns, February, 2019

    Ricardo Nascimento

The Brazilian defender has already raised his hand by netting the first goal since the resumption of the season against Bidvest Wits

While he is not a striker, Nascimento's presence means Sundowns have a go-to-guy when it comes to penalties as the centre-back has proven to be very reliable in that regard.

What's important though is how the lanky defender is going to handle Gabadinho Mhango come Tuesday - the battle between the two players is no doubt the one to watch.

  • Gabadinho Mhango - Orlando Pirates August 2019

    Gabadinho Mhango

Mhango has been touted as the strong favourite to win the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award having already scored 14 league goals thus far.

And with a handful of games remaining, it will be interesting to see if Mhango can score against Sundowns and increase his tally and his chances of claiming the award at the end of the season.

A reliable goalscorer of note after a slow start to the season and all eyes will be on whether or not he can still score goals as much as he did before the lockdown.

  • Mamelodi Sundowns v SuperSport United - August 2019 Themba Zwane

    Themba Zwane

Zwane, who is currently sitting on nine goals, has previously enjoyed facing Orlando Pirates

With Gaston Sirino not available due to suspension, the Tembisa-born attacking midfielder will no doubt be expected to produce the goods and lead his side to victory against the Sea Robbers.

If there's one player who can hurt Pirates the most in this fixture then it's none other Zwane, who has become an important member of Pitso Mosimane's squad over the years.

  • Luvuyo Memela, Orlando Pirates, 2019

    Luvuyo Memela

Memela had a slow start to the season after falling down the pecking order under Rhulani Mokwena.

However, he sprung back to life when Josef Zinnbauer came in as head coach in December 2019, and he has been one of Pirates' best players this season with his attacking prowess - something that the team lacked a little bit before the German mentor arrived.

With Thapelo Morena out injured, Memela will look to use that to his advantage by putting the pressure on whoever Mosimane puts as his right-back for this match but moreover, the big match temperament is what gives the left-footer the upper hand over any of his teammates in that left-wing position.

  • Keletso Makgalwa of Mamelodi Sundowns celebrates goal during the 2020 Nedbank Cup Quarter Final

    Keletso Makgalwa

Makgalwa has emerged as one of the rising stars for the Tshwane giants and he proved just why Mosimane can trust him in matches with huge expectations.

He is fearless and likes taking on opposition defenders, and with Pirates still struggling at the back this season, the Sundowns technical team can be rest-assured that Makgalwa would do the damage.

However, the young attacker will have to box smart against experienced defenders such as Innocent Maela and Happy Jele who will undoubtedly want to make him uncomfortable in the final third.
