    Will Malesela stun Downs?

Dan Malesela will take charge of his second Nedbank Cup final as a coach having made history when he led TS Galaxy to a win over Kaizer Chiefs in the 2019 final.

Galaxy, who were campaigning in the National First Division at the time, secured a shock 1-0 win over Chiefs and the Mpumalanga club became the first non-premiership side to win the tournament.

GOAL relives how Malesela stunned the cup kings of South African football.

Galaxy set up in a 4-5-1 formation as the former Chippa United coach crowded his midfield with Tshegofatso Nyama and Thembinkosi Mbamba operating as wingers.

Sihle Ndluli was the most advanced of the three central midfielders, while Tshepo Chaine led the attack as a lone striker. Future Chiefs defender Austin Dube and Bathusi Aubaas were deployed in central defence.

    Weak link identified

The Rockets identified right-back Kgotso Moleko as the weak link in the Amakhosi defence and most of their attacks came through this flank (Galaxy's left side).

Mbamba and Terrence Mashego combined well on the left side and got in behind the Chiefs defence on several occasions, but their delivery into the opposition's box was not up to scratch.

    Neutralise Manyama

Manyama surprisingly started the match - leading Chiefs' attack despite having little match practice prior to the game after recovering from injury and Malesela ensured that the versatile attacker was neutralised.

The former Sundowns captain assigned Dube to man-mark Manyama who had a quiet game and he had to be substituted in the 70th minute - being replaced by Dumisani Zuma who was also kept silent by Rockets defence.

  • Zakhele Lepasa, TS Galaxy, April 2019

    Ngidi and Lepasa introduction

The introduction of then Orlando Pirates loanee Zakhele Lepasa and Snethemba Ngidi in the second half injected some speed and urgency into the Galaxy attack.

The duo attacked the tired-looking Amakhosi defence with speed in the closing stages of the encounter.

    Lepasa - The super-sub

Galaxy were awarded a penalty in the last minute of the game after Lepasa dribbled into the Chiefs box with speed from the left flank.

The Soweto-born forward was sandwiched by Moleko and Teenage Hadebe with the match referee Abongile Tom pointing to the spot and Lepasa converted the resultant penalty to seal Galaxy's win.

Malesela will now be looking to mastermind a stunning win over another PSL giant this weekend.
