    WHAT HAPPENED?

Marumo Gallants striker Frank Gabadinho Mhango has explained why his proposed switch from AmaZulu to Kaizer Chiefs fell through at the last moment.

Ahead of the 2023/24 season, Amakhosi were desperately looking for a striker, and Mhango was to be on his way to Naturena before the campaign commenced.

However, the Glamour Boys ended their interest in Mhangi and ultimately signed Colombian forward Jasond Gonzalez and Ranga Chivaviro instead.

Now, a disappointed Mhango has disclosed what really happened and how close he came to joining Chiefs.

    WHAT MHANGO SAID

"It wasn’t just talk, but I was about to go to Chiefs, and then things turned around. Up to now, I don’t even know what happened," Mhango told FARPost.

"But I remember I was at AmaZulu, and I actually travelled from Durban to Joburg to complete the move. I was happy that I was going to be at Chiefs, but then things happened.

"I was looking forward, but at the end of the day, I was disappointed as it failed to happen. However, I am loving the game and the place where I ended up."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mhango, who also played for Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits during his peak, subsequently moved to the now-defunct Moroka Swallows from AmaZulu.

The 32-year-old skilled player then scored eight goals in 28 matches for the Dube Birds before the team transitioned to Gallants, where he is now continuing his career.

So far this season, Mhango has netted three goals in 14 across all competitions for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MHANGO?

Given his age, the former Bloemfontein Celtic star is unlikely to receive another chance to play for Chiefs, which is what he clearly desires to do before he hangs up his boots.
