Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Alton Meiring has died at the age of 48.According to <a href="https://www.idiskitimes.co.za/bafana-bafana/former-bafana-striker-passes-away/" target="_blank">iDiski Times</a>, Meiring died following a stabbing incident.Johannesburg-based amateur football club Luso Africa who were coached by Meiring confirmed the death of the retired footballer who managed to have two Bafana Bafana caps.

WHAT HAPPENED?

"It is with a heavy heart that we confirm the passing of coach Alton Meiring,"<a href="https://web.facebook.com/photo?fbid=840356501416812&amp;set=a.411031674349299" target="_blank"> Luso Africa said in a statement.</a>"He has been a big supporter of our club and has helped out multiple teams over the last few seasons, from juniors to seniors and even our ladies team."We are so grateful for his knowledge and assistance. WHAT LUSO AFRICA FC SAID

Meiring leaves a legacy of being the only player to have scored at least one league goal in the Premier Soccer League for nine clubs, <a href="https://x.com/OptaJabu/status/1839316920572825756" target="_blank">according to Opta Jabu.</a>He turned out for clubs like AmaZulu, Moroka Swallows, Sundowns, Cape Town Spurs, Manning Rangers, Jomo Cosmos, Mother City, Golden Arrows and Platinum Stars.

Funeral details of Meiring are yet to be made public as South Africa's football fraternity has been plunged into mourning. A minute of silence to remember Meiring is likely to be observed when Orlando Pirates clash with Stellenbosch in the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
