    WHAT HAPPENED?

Cape Town City suffered elimination from the Nedbank Cup last 32 after losing to Sekhukhune United at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Monday evening.

Despite coach Ertugral steering the team to notable wins over Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, this defeat marked the end of the Citizens’ chances to secure a trophy this season.

One of the standout players in the team, Keanu Cupido, has been at the centre of speculation, with Ertugral confirming that the defender’s move to Mamelodi Sundowns is finalised.

Ertugral expressed confidence in the team’s ability to cope without the versatile defender.

    WHAT ERTUGRAL SAID

“The deal has been done,” confirmed Ertugral, as reported by iDiski Times.

“Keanu obviously is a great player that looks to bigger challenges for himself. He deserves that.

“I think we are good in the defensive line so we still have one youngster [Alifeyo] Ziba he needs also a chance. I was thinking maybe today to give him a chance but Ziba is also a very interesting player.

“So along the way, he will have those chances to play hopefully we can get another, I think we are targeting another six victories that will bring us to the top 8.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Cupido’s move to Sundowns will give him the chance to compete at the highest level and challenge for trophies consistently.

At Sundowns, he will face tough competition for the centre-back position, lining up against Bafana Bafana internationals.

However, the move could also boost his chances for a national team call-up, something he has yet to achieve despite his consistency.

For Cape Town City, the focus shifts to integrating younger talent, such as Ziba, while aiming for a respectable league finish.
