The South African Football Players Union made a visit, which is a norm, to the Premier Soccer League side TS Galaxy to confirm their members are doing well.The Rockets are in their fourth season in the South African top tier and it seemed everything was good until recent revelation.

WHAT HAPPENED?

There are strange measures set by the management to keep the players in check both on and off the pitch.However, some of these reported guidelines are oppressive as the players' union Secretary-General Nhlanhla Shabalala found out in a recent visit to the club.Galaxy have reportedly subjected the playing unit to hefty fines, after committing seemingly petty offences.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

"At TS Galaxy, they fine players ridiculously, a player would be fined R10,000 for protesting after having been involved in a tackle which is all part of the game," the SAPU official said as quoted by <a href="https://www.snl24.com/kickoff/sanews/premiership/ts-galaxy/players-face-large-fines-at-ts-galaxy-20240124" target="_blank">SNL24</a>."But yet, when you just go to the referee and say it was not a foul but the referee gives you a yellow card because you engaged with the referee you get fined R10,000."For using boots that they say are not specified for the game - and I don't know who gets to decide these things, players are fined R15,000. There needs to be justice for the players who have fears."

WHAT SHABALALA SAID

Shabalala, and the Union at large, want the clubs to honour the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that will give players more freedom to champion their rights and at the same time deliver consistently.TS Galaxy have not yet responded to the claims by the SAFPU.
