    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs' struggles continue as they prepare to face Chippa United in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup. Head coach Nasreddine Nabi has confirmed that six players will be unavailable for the match, forcing others to step up in their absence.

Speaking at a press briefing, the Tunisian coach outlined the challenges his team faces while providing updates on the squad.

The missing players include captain Yusuf Maart (suspended), Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Dillon Solomons, Edmilson Dove (yet to feature this season), Wandile Duba, and Ashley Du Preez.

Nabi will have to rely on his squad depth to fill the gaps as Chiefs aim to stay in contention for silverware.

    WHAT NABI SAID

“Unfortunately our captain [Maart] is suspended,” Nasreddine Nabi told the media during the Nedbank Cup press conference in Sandton on Thursday as reported by Farpost.

“Ox [Sibongiseni Mthethwa] is still injured and won’t be part of the game,” he added.

He then revealed that George Matlou “has been training” alongside Dillan Solomons and Edmilson Dove.

While Matlou could be available, Nabi said, “Solomons and Dove need time to play friendly matches and get themselves fit.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

With the Nedbank Cup being the only realistic chance at silverware, Nabi will be hoping his team can replicate their recent league win against Stellenbosch.

The absence of key players means youngsters like Samkelo Zwane will need to step up in midfield.

Chiefs’ inconsistency has been a major concern, and they cannot afford any slip-ups in this crucial cup clash.

The pressure is mounting on Nabi to deliver a trophy in his debut season.

    WHAT NEXT FOR AMAKHOSI?

After easing past Free Agents with a 4-0 victory in the previous round, Chiefs now face a tough challenge against a wounded Chippa United side.

Thabo September’s men will be eager to cause an upset and progress further in the competition at the expense of Chiefs and their trophy ambitions.

With key absences, Nabi must find a tactical solution to maintain balance in the First XI and keep their hopes alive for silverware to ease the pressure on the technical team.
