Goal has all the information you need to know as the 2018 edition of the annual football championship for Lagos based sports writers

The Lagos SWAN Cup will kick off on October 1, with Nigerians already eagerly anticipating its commencement.

Goal Nigeria and 18 other media outfits will battle for the top prize at the Fifa Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Lagos.

Complete Sports are reigning champions, however, Mumini Alao’s men will not have an easy run at glory, with the likes of Sports Vision and Voice of Nigeria set to challenge, while Goal will be hoping to emerge as champions in their third appearance.


WHAT IS THE LAGOS SWAN CUP?

As the name suggests, the tournament is a football challenge involving media outlets under the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria – Lagos chapter.

The tourney commenced over a decade ago with its aim geared at promoting unity and friendship amongst journalists in the state.

19 teams participating in the 2018 edition have been zoned in to four groups with the best two teams making it to the quarter-finals.

Goal Nigeria are in Group D – same zone as two-time champions Sport Vision and arch-rivals, Top Radio.

WHERE WILL SWAN CUP BE PLAYED?


Swan Cup

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria Cup is hosted in Lagos.

The championship will be played inside the Fifa Goal Project turf ( Legacy Pitch) of the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos.

Since it’s a contest of involving five players per team, the playing surface will be divided to accommodate over five matches at a stretch.
