The Levante striker is set to be out for between four to six weeks due to injury

Levante sensation Emmanuel Boateng will miss the start of the coming La Liga season after a test on Tuesday confirmed a knee injury.

The Ghana international suffered a setback on Friday during a pre-season friendly between his Spanish club and English outfit Bournemouth.

An initial test on Monday proved inconclusive, prompting a second evaluation on Tuesday.

"The medical tests performed on Boateng have confirmed an internal meniscus injury of the left knee that will force him to go to the operating room," Levante have announced.

"The player will be operated Wednesday by Dr. Ernesto Fernandez at the hospital Chiron.

"A recovery time of 4 to 6 weeks is estimated.

"We must remember that Boateng retired in the first half of a match last Friday when Levante faced Bournemouth in the facility of La Manga.

"Boateng, scorer of one of our three goals, made a bad gesture in the first half of the game."

Boateng's anticipated recovery period makes him unavailable for Levante's first league game of the season against Real Betis on August 18. He is also expected to miss following matches against Celta de Vigo and Valencia

The news is not only bad for The Frogs but also for the 22-year-old who has set sights on taking this season by storm after a promising first campaign in Spain

Last term, the former Moreirense attacker netted six times in 25 La Liga games involving 10 starts.

Four of the six goals came against giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, with his magnificent hat-trick against the Blaugrana grabbing global headlines.

Boateng's setback could again see him miss Ghana's 2018 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya on September 6.
