Ulinzi Stars midfielder Daniel Wawere has challenged his teammates to get a quick response when they face Kakamega Homeboyz on Wednesday.

The soldiers are coming from a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Tusker and the midfield ace is asking the team to return to winning ways against Homeboyz.

The Tusker defeat came right at the back of a 2-1 defeat to Sofapaka prompting a team meeting to try and address a slump that has seen the team concede five goals in two games, scoring just once.

“What happened at Tusker was shameful and we have to rise above that as soon as possible. We are eager to put our season back on track with this game because we are in the title race and can’t afford to let points slip away easily.

“We have met as a team and talked about the last two league matches and hopefully we will get to address this with a good performance in the pitch on Wednesday,” Waweru told the club’s official website.

In 2017, the team won just five matches in the second leg, a bad run that saw them drop from second, to finish seventh. Waweru is hoping nothing close to that happens again.

“Last year, we had a bad start to the second leg and it went on to affect our final placing at the end of the season.

“We don’t want the same to happen again. After losing the first match of the second leg, it invokes bad memories and we have to be stabilize as fast as possible.”
